Amy L. Stikovich grew up in the Chicago suburbs. She graduated from The John Marshall Law School in January 1996, where she was on Moot Court Council and competed in several Moot Court competitions. Amy received her Illinois license in May of 1996. Amy relocated to Petoskey, Michigan in the fall of 2016, and she received her Michigan license in April of 2017.
Amy practiced with several boutique litigation firms in Chicago. She began her legal career handling residential and commercial insurance coverage claims. This included reviewing claims and providing coverage analysis, as well as investigating and litigating claims involving fraud or arson. In January of 2003, Amy moved to a firm in the Chicago suburbs, where she expanded her practice to include employment law and church law. She also handled business litigation, probate litigation and real estate law. In the fall of 2006, Amy opened her own practice (Stikovich Legal Counsel), which she continued to operate after relocating to Michigan. Amy created her practice to focus on the needs of her clients. Instead of following the "old school" way of rotely filling out forms and templates just to get the job done, she listens to her clients to determine their goal for resolution. Then she tailors a plan of action to meet that goal. Amy keeps her clients informed every step of the way. In April 2020, Amy joined local attorneys to form Nelson Deegan Forster & Stikovich, PC. Amy will continue to offer her clients the same high quality of service.
Amy assists clients in the areas of Employment Law, Real Estate Law, Contested Guardianships and Church Law. She also handles litigation matters and offers limited scope representation. In 2017 Amy completed mediation training. She volunteers with Northern Community Mediation in Petoskey, and she also offers private mediation. In June of 2020, Amy will receive a Certificate in Probate and Estate Planning from the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education/Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
Amy has a B.A. in English/Professional Writing from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. She is a member of the Michigan State Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, Emmet-Charlevoix Bar Association and the Society for Human Resource Management. She is also a member of the Labor and Employment, Real Property, Probate and Estate Planning and Religious Liberty Law Sections of the Michigan State Bar. Amy serves as Vice President of the School Board for Concord Academy of Petoskey. She also serves on the Michigan Bar Journal Committee, and she is a District Committee Member of the State Bar of Michigan Standing Committee on Character and Fitness.
Amy is licensed in Michigan and Illinois, as well as the Northern District of Illinois and the Western District of Michigan Federal Courts.
